A pilgrimage to a forsaken isle
Isle of Reveries is a retro, top-down action-adventure where you take control of an owl named Lief. Lief is making a pilgrimage skybound to the Isle of Reveries, a forsaken place where it is said that any wish can be granted. Along the way you traverse a Metroidvania-style world, fight through puzzlebox dungeons, and meet charming anthropomorphic characters. The game draws on Zelda-inspired dungeon design and packs in RPG elements, exploration, and combat across a vast overworld with eight different biomes.
Solving puzzles with your fairy companion
Your main tool is a fairy companion whose magic lets you duplicate and spawn a variety of objects in the world. You discover how these spawned objects interact with your robust set of items to solve head-scratching puzzles and to fight terrifying enemies. The dungeons are built around this idea: seven different dungeons, each with its own unique theme, mechanics, and key item, with six of them described as puzzlebox dungeons. Expect a mix of combat, item use, and object manipulation as you work through each one.
Playing together and building a township
There are two separate multiplayer stages you can play through with a friend, either in local co-op or online via Steam Remote Play Together. Outside of those stages, the game is listed as singleplayer. You can also forge a community as you play: construct various buildings and build a township, and characters that Lief saves throughout the game move in, offering new quests and stories. Before starting, know that the world is large and interconnected in Metroidvania style, so backtracking and unlocking new routes with key items is part of the loop.
