What Head 2 Head is

Head 2 Head is a 2D fighter with roguelike survival mechanics, set in the Realm of the Master Mind. You play as Red Head, a rookie Head Hunter trying to collect every head and earn the title of Ultimate HEAD MASTER. The whole roster of 13 characters fights using a single style called ALL HEAD JITSU, so you never have to learn a separate movelist per fighter. In this realm, Skulls are Skills: every opponent you beat hands you Skulls, which you spend on unlocking new heads and rolling for stat buffs that stack up over the course of a run.

How the fighting actually works

The system is built to be readable for people who don't play fighters, without being shallow. There are no pretzel inputs, so you don't need to memorize quarter-circles to get anything useful out of the game. What gives it depth is the cancel system: dash cancels and jump cancels let you extend combos, and Skull cancels are available on top of that. That means the ceiling comes from how you string things together and express yourself mid-fight rather than from execution gymnastics. Every head you unlock brings its own benefit and stat buff, so the toolset widens as you go.

Survival mode and the roguelike loop

Survival is the main mode to understand before you start. You fight opponents one after another, and each kill gives you a Skull to spend on rolling for new heads and roguelike buffs that compound as the run continues. The catch is that when you lose, the run ends and all of those stat buffs are gone, but the Skulls stay with you. So there's a long-term progression layer underneath the run-to-run climbing, and spending decisions matter across runs, not just inside one.

Playing with the squad

The game supports online versus through GGPO and Epic Online Services, so you and your friends can settle things over the net with rollback netcode behind it. There's also Remote Play Together, which lets someone join in over a local-style session even if they don't have the game. Given the funny, cartoony tone and the fact that one shared fighting style means nobody has to grind multiple characters, it's easy to hand a controller to someone and let them learn on the spot. Heads up that it's in Early Access, so expect the game to still be getting changes as it moves toward its full release.
