A shooter where you also command
Guardians Frontline is a sci-fi VR shooter that puts you in two roles at once: soldier and commander. You fight enemies directly with a large arsenal of weapons, but you also build structures and units, and you can drop huge mechs straight into the fight. The result blends fast action with real-time strategy, so a match is as much about where you place things as about how well you shoot. Movement and combat use a twin stick and FPS style, with 6DOF freedom and physics that matter — the Gravity Gun, for example, lets you smash enemies against cliffs. Vehicles are part of the picture too: you can maneuver mechs and spaceships to fight from the ground and the sky.
Playing with your group
The campaign can be played solo or with up to 4 players in co-op, so a small group can work through it together while defending the federation. For competitive sessions, up to 8 players can battle in PvP fights that lean on tactics as much as reflexes. Full cross-play support is included throughout, which keeps the group together regardless of where each player is running the game. Whether you are sharing the campaign or squaring off in PvP, expect to split attention between shooting and directing your base and units in real time.
Before you start
This is a VR game, so you need a VR setup to play. There is a tutorial on hand to cover the basics before you jump in. The game also ships with an easy-to-use in-game level editor: you can build your own maps and make them public for the community, which is where much of the long-term replay value comes from. The visuals have been enhanced with environmental effects, reflections, shaders, realtime shadows and more. Expect a mix of PvE campaign play and PvP modes, with the strategy layer running alongside the shooting at all times.
