What GRAIN ROT is

GRAIN ROT is a co-op extraction horror game set in a scorched wasteland where everything burns. You play as a Living Spark trapped inside a fragile wooden vessel that splinters, collapses, and catches fire. When the vessel breaks, the Spark escapes and keeps going — death is just a change of scenery, not the end of the run. You ride a cursed elevator down into shifting underground ruins, scavenge what you can, and try to haul it back out. The deeper you go, the worse the Rot becomes: bodies warp, voices distort, and the Corrupted in the Deep Layers react to sound, movement, and each other in ways that are hard to predict.

Playing it with your crew

You descend with your friends and split the work between scavenging and survival. Smash furniture for resources or feed it into the Grinder for gold, then rip out interactive furniture and carry it back. If every vessel breaks, the loot is lost, so the group has to decide when to push and when to run. The physics leave room for deliberate chaos: dropkick enemies, block a teammate in a monster-infested corridor, get caught in the crossfire, or accidentally launch an ally's Spark out of their vessel. Cursed emotes are part of the toolkit too. A broken player stays in the run as a Spark, guiding the team through the dark, searching for another host with a new set of abilities, and forcing their way back in before they fade out completely.

Before you start

Everything you extract feeds back into the Outpost, which is persistent. Interactive furniture, stat upgrades, rescued survivors, and stranger ways to survive all come from what your group hauls home, and a stronger Outpost lets you afford deeper descents. Dungeons are procedurally generated and shift between runs, so the layout you learned last time will not save you. Expect PvE pressure from the Corrupted rather than other players, body corruption and mutation systems as you push down, and questionable cosmetics along the way. The loop is simple to state and hard to hold together: fight, build, run, panic, extract more, and decide who makes it back.
