Maxwell's journey through a hostile system
Goodboy Galaxy is a colorful 2D sci-fi platformer from Goodboy Galaxy Ltd. You play as Maxwell, a dog whose homeworld is close to collapsing. He makes a desperate hyperjump to find help and ends up stranded at the edge of a hostile system. Getting home means finding friends, finding weapons, and dealing with whatever mysterious forces are in the way. The levels are packed with routes, hidden areas, and boss battles, and you move through them by jumping, shooting, slicing, shrinking, warping, and drilling. Along the way you collect friendship cards from the more than 50 friends you meet and upgrade your blaster with special abilities.
Playing together
Goodboy Galaxy is listed as a singleplayer game, so one person holds the controller and works through the levels. The Steam feature Remote Play Together is available, which lets friends join in remotely while you play. Beyond that, a group can take turns, watch someone else run the levels, or compare which routes and hidden areas each person found.
Before you start
The structure is nonlinear and leans on Metroidvania-style exploration, so expect to revisit areas once you have new blaster abilities or movement options. Some routes and hidden spots only open up after you have the right upgrade. Boss battles are part of the mix, so a run can pause while you figure out a fight. The game supports controller play.
