A fairy tale puzzle-platformer with a frog and a cat

Frincess&Cnight is a single-screen puzzle-platformer about a frog princess and a cat knight trying to get out of prison together. Evil magic turned the poor princess into a frog and locked her in the oubliette, and the cat knight is keen to rescue her but not especially good at it. You switch between the two characters to get past a prison full of traps. Each screen is its own compact puzzle, so you solve one room at a time rather than exploring a big map. Along the way there are dialogues written with a deliberately silly, romantic streak.

Playing together

The game is built as a local co-op experience, and Remote Play Together is supported, so a friend can join you over Steam's feature. Both characters have to be handled to clear a room, which puts the two players in the position of helping each other past traps rather than racing ahead alone. Split Screen is listed among the tags, so you can sit on one screen and take a character each. If nobody is around, the setup also works as a single-player game where you control both heroes in turn.

What to know before you start

Expect a challenge: the game carries the Difficult tag, and its traps are the core of most rooms. Progress is linear, moving through 55 stages that add up to roughly four to five hours of play. It is a 2D pixel-art platformer with puzzle-platformer mechanics, so most of the work is reading a room, positioning both characters, and then executing the solution rather than fighting. Sessions suit short bursts as well as longer ones, since each stage is a self-contained screen you can clear and move on from.
