What Evolution is about
Evolution is a digital card game where each player builds and evolves a species to survive in an ecosystem where food is scarce and predators are always a threat. You spend trait cards to give your species advantages, then compete for the limited food at the watering hole. The game is built on more than 1.6 million players' worth of board game design, with 17 unique trait cards that combine into over 12,000 possible trait combinations, so no two games play out the same way. The rules are clear and quick to pick up, but the strategies you can build from them are deep and varied.
Playing together as a group
Evolution supports several ways to play with your friends. You can use the skill-based matchmaking to find opponents of equal skill, or set up custom games directly with people on your friends list. For groups sitting in the same room, there is hotseat local multiplayer play. The game also supports Remote Play Together and cross-platform play across iOS, Android, and PC, so your group is not limited to the same hardware. Asynchronous multiplayer is supported as well, which lets matches proceed when players are available rather than requiring everyone online at once.
Before you start
A learn-as-you-play tutorial walks you through the basics, with a professor guiding you from one watering hole to the next before you strike out on your own. There is a 24-level campaign mode where you face unique adaptive AI bosses; defeating them unlocks new AI personalities you can add to your single-player opponent roster. An unlockable "Brutal Mode" is available for experienced players who want a harder challenge. The game is turn-based, so matches move at a deliberate pace that rewards planning over reflexes.
