What Dune: Imperium is
Dune: Imperium is a board game of deck-building and worker placement set on Arrakis. You lead one of the Great Houses of the Imperium and fight over the Spice the planet provides. The game runs for ten rounds, and each round brings a new Conflict on the surface. Some Conflicts award resources, others hand out Victory Points that push you toward dominance. Between rounds you draw a hand of five cards from your deck, and your deck grows stronger as you buy new cards.
Each card can be played in one of two ways. You can send an Agent out into the Imperium to gather resources, or you can Reveal the card at the end of the round to purchase more powerful cards. Keeping these two uses in balance is the core of every turn. Along the way you build Influence with four factions: the Emperor, the Spacing Guild, the Bene Gesserit, and the Fremen of the deep desert. Influence earns Victory Points, but you have to decide whether to chase the same factions your rivals want or walk away and pursue something else.
Playing with your group
You can battle online against other players, play locally against AI, or take on House Hagal. The game tracks Achievements that show what you have pulled off as a leader, and more than a dozen Challenges test your planning and timing. Skirmish Mode rotates on a cycle and awards badges, with no two games playing out the same way.
Before you start
Military force is one route to power, but the game makes clear that war is not the only one. Political allies, economic strength, and quiet intrigue all work, so a group can approach the same Conflict from very different angles. Spreading your forces too thin across Conflicts lets your enemies grow strong enough that you cannot stop them, so picking your battles matters as much as winning them. The cards are dealt and the choice is yours.
