Two sides in a sci-fi shooter

Drone Wars is a multiplayer first-person shooter where you pick either a heavily armed combat drone or a human special task force soldier. The two sides play differently, so a match is not just the same fight with different models. The game is built around a simple, fair multiplayer experience: the drone controls are easy enough that you can skip flight training and just start flying, and there are no one-shot weapons under normal circumstances. That last point matters in practice — if someone shoots you in the back, you still have a chance to turn and fight back instead of dying instantly. The look is 3D, stylized and colorful, with arcade-style action and physics in the mix.

Playing as a group

Drone Wars supports online PvP, so your group can queue up and fight together in the same matches. There are seven game modes to work through, and they split into drone-focused and human-focused formats. Drone modes include Team Deathmatch, Arena (last drone flying), Deathmatch, and Capture Points, where you capture and defend capture points. Human modes include Team Deathmatch. The mixed modes put both sides against each other: Drones vs Humans Team Deathmatch, and Drones vs Humans Wipeout, where humans try to survive until a rescue force arrives while drones try to kill every remaining human before the timer runs out. In Wipeout, every dying human turns into a drone, so the balance of the match shifts as it goes.

Before you start

After each game mode, players vote on the next one, which keeps a session moving without anyone having to back out to a lobby — though server admins can turn that voting off. The mode list may grow over time, so expect new options to show up. The developers also take feedback seriously and gather it through community channels and development surveys, so if something feels off during a session, that input goes somewhere useful. Since the game is free to play, the main thing to sort out before a group session is agreeing on which of the seven modes you want to start with.
