A cooperative card game built on the Dresden Files cases

Dresden Files Cooperative Card Game puts you in the shoes of Harry Dresden and his friends as they work through cases drawn from the Dresden Files novels. The twist is a what-if: Harry is on the scene with allies who were not there in the original story. The core game covers the first five novels, and it also includes Side Jobs, a random scenario generator based on the short story collection of the same name. You get Harry, Murphy, Susan, Michael, and the Alphas to build your team from. It is a turn-based card game with a tabletop and board game feel, played in 2D.

How your group plays it together

This is a cooperative game, so everyone at the table is on the same side working toward a shared outcome rather than competing against each other. It supports 1 to 5 players, which means you can run it solo or gather the whole group. Sessions are on the short side at around 30 minutes, so it fits into a night where you also want to play something else. Online Co-op and Remote Play Together let you and your friends play across the distance, and Local Co-Op covers the case where you are all in the same room. The tag list also notes a co-op campaign, so scenarios can link up into a longer run rather than staying isolated one-offs.

Before you start

Think of it as a strategy card game with puzzle elements: you are choosing cards and sequencing turns to get through each case, and the turn-based structure means nobody is rushed. It is listed as casual and indie, so the rules are approachable, but the card play rewards planning with your teammates about who does what. Expect a session to take about half an hour, and expect to be working together the whole way through. The developer has designs underway for expansions with more series characters and more novels, so the roster and case list shown here is what the core game gives you.
