What Death's Hangover is

Death's Hangover is a ball and bat game with horror elements and mature comedy, mainly poop jokes. The setup: Old Grim has a brutal hangover and finds out Bastard Dracula has stolen souls, so he summons two of the greatest dead warriors ever lived — or the first two he could find. Those two dead idiots have to get the souls back and take down Bastard Dracula for good. If they fail, Death kills them again, so no pressure.

The game runs on 96+ levels with massive boss fights and unique bonus stages. Levels come in arcade-style and puzzle flavours, and there are multiple routes plus secret areas to find. You control the speed of the ball with dash and slowdown, and power-ups include sticky, spike and ghost types, with more besides. Power-ups can be leveled up as you go. The whole thing is 2D pixel graphics with wacky humor throughout.

Playing it together

Death's Hangover has a unique 2ply mode for playing with a friend, and it carries the Local Co-Op tag, so a group can sit down and work through the levels side by side. Remote Play Together is supported, which means someone who owns the game can invite friends along over a connection instead of everyone needing their own copy. Between the boss fights, bonus stages and puzzle levels, there is plenty to trade turns on or tackle as a pair.

Before you start

The tone is set early: gore, mature comedy and themes, and humor that leans on crude jokes. If that is not your group's thing, better to know now. The game also ships with a level editor, so you can build your own levels after the main run, plus the OST and bonus tracks are included. Expect a mix of arcade reflex work and puzzle thinking rather than one single style, and expect the ball-and-bat core to carry all of it.
