What Deathmatch Classic is
Deathmatch Classic, often shortened to DMC, is a first-person arena shooter from Valve made as a tribute to the work of id software. You move fast, pick up weapons from the map, and fight other players in futuristic settings built for straight-up fragging. The rocket launcher is the signature tool, and landing hits with it takes timing and prediction rather than patience. Expect a classic 1990s-style shooter: quick movement, tight arenas, and a skill gap that shows up immediately once the match starts. The tag list calls it difficult, and that fits — reflexes matter more than anything else here.
Playing it with your group
DMC is built around online PvP, so your group can join the same match and shoot at each other directly. There is no team structure to coordinate or objectives to split up over; everyone is out for themselves, which makes it easy to drop in and start a session without setup. Deathmatch is the format: last frag standing at the end wins the bragging rights. Remote Play Together is listed as a Steam feature, which gives your group another way to play along if that suits your setup better.
Before you start
This is an old-school arena shooter, so the pace is unforgiving and the maps reward map knowledge — knowing where weapons spawn and how to circle-strafe is half the fight. Rocket damage can hurt you as well as your opponents, so careless shots at close range backfire. The game carries a gore tag, so expect the usual splatter when things go wrong. Give everyone a few matches to get their movement and aim dialed in before you start keeping score, otherwise the gap between whoever played shooters in the nineties and everyone else will be obvious fast.
