What DAMNOSAUR is
DAMNOSAUR is a 2D arcade shooter with a colourful anime look, built around a dino-apocalypse. Dinosaurs have time travelled from their extinction to the present day, and it falls to Proh and her brain-eating friend Gon to restore Jollywood to its former glory. You seek out the dinos, fight them, and try to survive as long as you can. The enemies range from Pterodactyls to Triceratops, and each one behaves differently, so you are always adjusting to what is on screen. As you push further, the pro-player runs into even more hectic versions of the same dinos — the big lizards get even bigger.
Playing it with a friend
The game has local co-op, with tweaks made so two people on one screen stay a chaotic but shared experience. Your second player takes the form of Broh, the Proh of an alternate dimension, who is just as capable of dino-kicking as the pink-haired Proh herself. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, so a friend who is not in the same room can join in over that. Either way, the core loop stays the same: hunt the dinosaurs, keep moving, and stay alive.
Weapons and what to expect
Eight different weapons drop as you defeat enemies, and each one has its own special trait — some harness the power of time, some are infused with the energy of the sun, and one is simply a really sweet revolver. Since they drop from kills, the weapon you are holding shifts as the fight goes on, and adapting to what you pick up is part of the run. Expect a fast, messy arcade pace rather than a slow tactical one: enemies are unique, the tougher versions are bigger and more hectic, and the goal is to survive as long as you can while clearing Jollywood of its new reptile residents.
