A Napoleonic RTS add-on
Cossacks II: Battle for Europe is a standalone add-on for Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars, built around the short historic period of the Napoleonic wars. It is a strategy game in the classic RTS mold, focused on mass-scale battles between thousands-strong armies. The theatres of operation include France, Britain, Austria, Russia, Prussia, Egypt, plus three nations not in the original game: Spain, the Grand Duchy of Warsaw (Poland), and the Confederation of the Rhine. The game reconstructs soldiers' uniforms, weapons and architecture in detail, and each nation's army has its own unique units and possibilities. Content includes over 180 units, 190 buildings, and 1200 flora and fauna elements.
Fighting together in multiplayer
The add-on presents new nations with the possibility to wage multiplayer battles, so a group can pick different nations and clash on the same map. Battles take place at historical scale with tens of thousands of units on one map, across different types of terrain and weather. Enhanced diplomacy tools let you create treaties that give you advantages, which matters when several players are coordinating or cutting deals mid-campaign. Online PvP is available, and Remote Play Together is supported.
Formations, morale and terrain
The combat system takes the peculiarities of early 19th century warring into account: formations, provisions and troop morale all matter. A realistic troop morale system means well-fed troops live longer and gain experience, while fierce or overwhelming opponents and long marches cause morale to drop. Ballistics follow an "honest" system based on physics for bullets and cannonballs. The engine uses 3-dimensional landscaping that affects tactics directly — a subdivision of soldiers or a cannon on a hill has greater firing range than a unit stationed on flat terrain. Tactical tricks used by military commanders of the time are reflected in the game, so positioning and supply lines are worth thinking about before you commit to a charge.
