Building and running a voxel colony

Colony Survival is a first-person strategy game set in a voxel world. You plant a banner to claim a spot, then recruit colonists who take on jobs like farming, mining and guarding. Your colony starts in the Stone Age with a handful of primitive jobs, and an extensive science system lets you unlock new jobs, blocks, upgrades and weapons as you produce materials, study clay tablets and scrolls, and sell luxury items. Advancing through the timeline eventually gets you gunpowder weapons, gliders, printing presses and rails.

Both colonists and monsters use dynamic 3D pathfinding, so bridges, tunnels, stairs, overpasses and underpasses matter. You can shape the terrain to help your people reach their work and to keep monsters out. Walls, moats and forts become more important as the threat grows.

Playing together with friends

Co-op servers launch straight from the main menu, and you invite friends into your world. A group can share ownership of one colony, or split off and run separate colonies while trading items and science with each other. Online PvP is also supported, so groups that want competition have that option as well. Remote Play Together lets someone join from a friend's session.

There is an advanced server tool for hosting a private server for a closed group or a public one for a wider community. Extensive mod support lets the group customize the experience together.

What to know before starting

Monsters attack every night, and the more colonists you recruit, the more of them try to invade. If you would rather build without pressure, game settings let you turn monsters off entirely, or let them spawn during the day for a harder challenge. Graphics settings cover bloom, depth of field and FOV.

The game is in Early Access, and updates arrive regularly. The developers note that the game lacks proper animations. Cheats are available for quickly recruiting colonists, spawning blocks and unlocking research. Fan translations cover German, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, French and many other languages.
