What Cobalt is
Cobalt is a fast side-scrolling shooter from Oxeye Game Studio. The whole game is built around one idea: slow motion. The game drops into extreme slo-mo on its own, giving you time to aim, deflect bullets with the combat roll, or line up a rocket punch. You can play through a cosmic story campaign alone or with a friend, and the campaign includes puzzles, boss fights, and tameable pets. Along the way you meet questions like what happened to the humans and why you are riding a space hamster.
Playing together
Multiplayer runs locally or online. You can face off in Deathmatch, free-for-all or team-based, or try Team Strike, where there are no respawns, multiple rounds, and equipment upgrades between them. Plug Slam is the sport mode: get the plug into the goal while staying alive. Survival Mode throws waves of enemies at you and lets you upgrade equipment between rounds. Combat and Speed challenges put you on the global leaderboards. Story Mode can be played with a friend in local co-op.
Before you start
There are over 80 maps and 67 weapons to learn, including more than 37 ranged weapons, 33 melee weapons, and 6 hand shields. Weapons and armour can be customised to your taste. The combat roll is the signature move and it deflects projectiles, so it is worth practising early. Expect the unexpected alongside the shooting: dancing mini-games, tameable wasps, and birds that you befriend before they explode. The game also includes a level editor.
