Two ways to play the Gallic Wars
Celtic Kings: Rage of War is a real-time strategy game from Haemimont Games, first released in 2002, and the opening entry in the Celtic Kings series. Julius Caesar has his sights set on Gaul, and you can approach the conflict from either side. Strategic mode puts you in charge of the Romans or the Gauls, where positioning your forces and reading the map decide the outcome. Adventure mode follows Larax, whose village was raided and whose wife was killed, as he takes on the warring tribes. The two modes blend story-driven action with classic base-building strategy, all rendered in stylized 2D graphics.
Playing together
The game supports Remote Play Together, so a friend can join your session over a network connection. One person owns the game and starts it up, then invites others through Steam to watch or take part. This is a handy way to share a campaign run or a skirmish without everyone needing their own copy. Since the game predates modern co-op conventions, the shared experience centers on one host driving the session while others join in.
Before you start
This is a classic RTS from 2002, so expect interface conventions and pacing from that era rather than modern quality-of-life features. The campaign alternates between large-scale strategic command and more personal adventure segments, so missions can shift in scope from managing an army to following Larax's personal vendetta. The Gallic Wars setting grounds the whole thing in a real historical conflict, with Caesar's legions pushing into Gaul and the native tribes fighting back.
