A pirate world you can roam freely

Cat Quest III puts you in the boots of a purrivateer crossing the Purribean, an archipelago full of islands, dungeons and biomes. You travel between them on your own ship, then step ashore and continue on foot. The world is open, so you decide where to go next: hunt for treasure in the far corners, or pick up quests from the odd characters you meet and do them in whatever order you like. The search for the Northern Star, a long-lost mythical treasure, gives your journey a direction, and clues about it are scattered across the islands. Along the way you dig up weapons such as the blunderpuss, learn spells, and find costumes to dress your character in.

Playing it with friends

The game can be played solo or in local co-op, so two of you can share the same screen and work through the Purribean together. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, which lets a friend join your session over the internet as if they were sitting beside you. Combat is the main thing you share: the system has tighter attack combos and weapon swapping, so there is plenty to coordinate when Pi-rats close in. On the ship and on land you travel the same route together, which makes treasure hunting and dungeon crawling a joint job rather than a relay.

What to know before you start

Expect a colorful, cartoonish world with a light, funny tone and a pirate theme packed with cat wordplay. It is an action RPG at heart, so fighting and looting drive most of the playtime, and the 2.5D perspective keeps exploration readable. The Pirate King's Pi-rats hunt you down as you go, so the seas and islands stay lively with danger. Since the world is freely explorable, you can wander off the beaten path at any moment and come back to a quest later; nothing forces a fixed order. Bring a second controller or set up Remote Play Together if you want company, otherwise the whole trip works fine on your own.
