A pirate survival world with real stakes
Windrose is a PvE survival adventure set in an alternative Age of Piracy. You start as a captain with a grudge against Blackbeard, and the story pulls you into a conflict between empires, pirate clans, and darker powers working behind the scenes. The core loop is build, craft, survive: gather resources, put up anything from a rough shelter to a mansion or a full fort, and recruit NPCs to speed up harvesting and production at your settlement. Around that sits a large open world of procedurally generated biomes, with over 100 hand-crafted dungeons and points of interest hiding treasure, quests, and the things that bite back.
Fighting on deck and on land
Combat is soulslike in feel: parry and dodge, chain strikes, and pick your tools from sabers, rapiers, halberds, greatswords, pistols, and muskets. Talents, flexible loadouts, and armor sets shape how you fight, while food and potions give you buffs for the tough stretches. Bosses are the real test, and they carry treasure worth taking. At sea it works differently — you trade cannon fire at range or close the gap for a boarding action, with seamless transitions between ship and shore. Your ship can be swapped and customized from a nimble ketch up to a versatile brig and a monstrous frigate, so your vessel can match how you like to play.
Playing together
Windrose runs solo offline or in co-op with friends, supporting up to 8 players, with self-hosted and dedicated servers both available. A crew can split the work naturally: some sail and fight, others build and gather, and everyone meets up for dungeon runs and boss fights. The developers recommend parties of up to 4 players for the best experience, since performance can dip in the late game. Procedural generation means no two journeys line up the same way, so each crew charts its own course through the world.
