A hand-drawn collectathon through a magic castle
Castle on the Coast is a 3D platformer where you play as George the Giraffe, a friendly giraffe with a big moveset. You run through a large interconnected world with no loading screens, moving between crystal caverns, stone-laden halls, and alternate dimensions. The goal is a classic collectathon loop: pick up flowers to unlock new costumes, gather star keys to open doors, and collect keystones that open the central tower. Along the way George is trying to bring a family of two powerful, conflicted wizards back together. The game also deals with heavier themes like loss, conflict, and loving your enemies, so the tone shifts between arcade fun and quieter moments.
Parkour with responsive controls
George strings together wall runs, wall jumps, spins, dives, and rolls, and the controls are built to let you chain those moves together. You can carve your own routes through levels rather than following a single fixed path, which suits the nonlinear layout. When movement alone is not enough, George can put on a jetpack or drive a rocket-powered car to reach higher ground. The levels are designed to reward experimentation, so trying an odd route often works.
Playing together with a friend
The co-op mode gives Player 2 control of Swirlz the flying squirrel, George's sidekick. Swirlz can create springy flowers to help with traversal, blast enemies with magic, and turn into a living parachute to slow George's descent. The two characters have distinct jobs, so cooperation is the point rather than an afterthought. The store text notes that the co-op mode makes the game approachable for younger players alongside friends or sitters. Remote Play Together is also listed as a Steam feature, which lets others join over the internet.
Before you start
George is the official mascot of Valley Children's Hospital in California, where a giraffe was chosen because giraffes have the largest heart of any land mammal, and the character has represented the hospital for nearly seven decades. The game is a collaboration between Valley Children's, Big Heart Productions, and Klabater. Expect a colorful, cartoony, family-friendly presentation with a hand-drawn art style, and expect the world to be open enough that you can wander between areas at your own pace.
