Two characters, two jobs
Carly and the Reaperman - Escape from the Underworld is a third-person platformer set in the Underworld, where Carly and the Reaperman visit the worlds of the spirits that live there. The two characters work very differently: the Reaperman is a giant who picks up platforms, and Carly is a small girl who jumps on top of the platforms the Reaperman places. So the game is half platforming and half puzzle building — you move, you place, you figure out how the pieces fit together to reach the finish line. There are over 50 levels of platforming and more than 10 hours of gameplay, plus unlockable hats and other customizables to collect along the way.
Playing together
You can control both characters yourself, or hand one to a friend. In local co-op the two of you split the work: one person handles the Reaperman's platform placement while the other runs and jumps as Carly, and the level only opens up when you coordinate. The asymmetry is the whole point — neither role can finish alone, so you talk it through and time your moves. The game also supports Remote Play Together, and the store text points to Parsec as a way to play online with a friend by letting them connect to your PC and join the local multiplayer session.
Before you start
The game includes VR support with asymmetric VR, and if you use Valve Index Knuckles controllers you need to load the official binding through SteamVR controller settings before they work properly. The story follows Carly and the Reaperman through the Underworld, so expect the levels to unfold as a sequence rather than as a set of disconnected challenges. Difficulty comes from combining platforming with puzzles, so a run through a level usually means trying a layout, seeing where it fails, and rebuilding.
