What Cards & Tankards is
Cards & Tankards is a social collectible card game from Divergent Realities, LLC, built for PC and VR. You collect cards, build a deck, and play turn-based battles either against other players or against the computer. The card pool currently sits at over 280 cards, split into creatures and spells you can put together into whatever deck you like — decks are completely customizable. There are 4 factions, each with its own unique combat mechanics, so the way a deck plays changes depending on which faction you lean into. The setting is medieval fantasy, and the whole thing is set up to feel like sitting at your local card store, with a stylized look rather than a realistic one.
Playing together
Cross-platform multiplayer is in, so you and your friends can connect even if you're not all on the same hardware. You can battle each other directly, or warm up against the computer when the group isn't all online. Battles are turn-based, which keeps the pace social — there's room to talk between moves instead of everyone scrambling. Alongside the matches, you can build your own look with customizable avatars, props, and pets, so you stand out at the table instead of showing up as a default.
Before you start
Deckbuilding is the core of the game, so expect time spent collecting cards and tuning a list before you jump into PvP. Because there are 4 factions with distinct combat mechanics, it's worth learning one faction properly rather than spreading across all of them at once. It's tagged as casual and family friendly, so the barrier to a first match is low, but the strategy layer and the card pool give it plenty of replay value once you're into it.
