A voxel dungeon crawl built for the couch
Riverbond is a shoot-and-slash dungeon crawler set in a voxel world. You move through maps, take on an objective in each one, and fight your way to the end. Along the way you open hidden chests and pick up melee and ranged weapons, then swap them out whenever a different tool suits the fight better. Enemies and bosses fill the maps, and the environments themselves are part of the fun: you can slash, smash and wreck the voxel scenery, which breaks apart into cubes under real-time physics. Exploring the depths of each area is worth it, since chests and side paths hide more gear.
Playing together
The game runs in single-player or with up to 4 players in drop-in/drop-out couch co-op, so someone can join or leave mid-session without restarting. Everyone shares the same screen and the same maps, which suits groups that want a quick session together rather than a long setup. Remote Play Together is also supported, which lets friends join over a connection instead of sitting at the same machine. Combat is fast and arcade-like, so expect plenty of chaos once four players are smashing the same room full of enemies and blocks.
Before you start
Each map comes with its own objective, and clearing it moves you toward the finish, so the run has a clear direction rather than open-ended grinding. Weapons are found rather than chosen up front, which means your loadout changes as you go; be ready to adapt instead of committing to one style for the whole game. The world rewards poking into corners and breaking things, so leave some time for that between fights. The tone is lighthearted with cute enemies and stylized visuals, and the game is listed as family friendly, which makes it a reasonable pick for mixed groups. A controller is the natural fit for this kind of twin-stick, local co-op action.
