Working together as Scientists

BACKROOMS: APPREHENSION puts up to 12 players in the Backrooms, where a shapeshifting Skin Stealer hides among the group. As a Scientist, your job is to survive, scavenge for supplies and weapons, and expose the creature or find a way out. The monster will not stop until every human is gone, so staying alive means sticking with your team and watching each other closely. Trusting the wrong person can end your run, which makes every conversation and every decision matter.

Playing as the Skin Stealer

The other side of the game puts you in the Skin Stealer's role. Direct attacks fail against a coordinated group, so you have to be cunning: assimilate victims, hide in plain sight, spread distrust, and turn players against each other. Your goal is to eliminate or infect all humans before they expose you or escape. The two roles play very differently, and both sides rely on reading the people around you.

What to know before starting

The game runs on online multiplayer for up to 12 players with asymmetric gameplay, so one side hunts while the other tries to stay alive. Dynamic proximity voice chat is part of the experience, which means who you are standing near shapes what you hear and who can hear you. Expect fast-paced, intense rounds built around player interactions, with an atmosphere of dread and paranoia. The mix of action, stealth, horror, and social deduction means no two rounds play out the same.
