What Unfortunate Spacemen is
Unfortunate Spacemen is an online multiplayer game about shapeshifting deception and betrayal. You play as a spaceman employed by The Company, working to defend failing outposts and get rescued from them. The catch: not everyone around you is who they claim to be. Death is part of life in space, and paranoia runs rampant once the killing starts.
Matches take place across 15 distinct alien locales, including desolate settlements, arctic outposts, derelict space stations, warp-speed hypertrains, and ancient digsites. Shapeshifter Mode supports up to 16 players per match.
How your group plays together
In Shapeshifter Mode you pick a side and play it. As a Spaceman, complete objectives to call for rescue, or go hunt the Monster in packs. As the Monster, mimic and devour the Spacemen, lay traps, disguise yourself as other players, or take them head-on in Monster Form. As a Traitor, help the Monster win, perhaps even at the cost of your own life.
Communication is proximity chat: all in-game talk fades with distance from the speaker, so you can roam, sneak, hide, and eavesdrop as you hunt or run. Security Guard bots roam the facility too — use them to learn the ropes and practice, or add them for more chaos in a multiplayer game.
Beyond that, there is a Solo / Co-op Story Mode where you fight the Crumerian insect swarm with up to 5 friends, and a Solo / Co-op Survival Mode where you hold out against progressively harder waves with up to 9 other friends.
Before you start
Ranking up through The Company unlocks new customization and perks, so your look and playstyle develop over time. The game blends action, strategy, horror, and comedy — expect tense hunting and hiding alongside dark humor rather than straightforward shooting. It runs as a free-to-play title with online co-op and online PvP, so you will need other players for the deception modes, while the story and survival modes can be played solo or with friends.
