A monkey shooter with classes and maps

Apewar is an online tactical and action FPS/TPS monkey war game adapted from real life. You build a monkey team and fight against the enemy side. The game runs in Early Access and covers genres like Action, Casual and Indie, with tags such as Arena Shooter, Team-Based, Class-Based, Stylized, Colorful and Funny. The store text points to many map options where you can have fun moments, and it stresses that monkeys are strong together.

Playing with your group

You play online with both Co-op and PvP available. The modes listed are Free for All, Team Deathmatch and a Grab Banana mode. In Grab Banana, both teams race to reach bananas that sit in the part of the map with the most combat and action. You have a limited time to seize those bananas and carry them back to your area, and enemies can shoot and kill you while you pick one up and transport it. Coordination and a good strategy matter, since playing in a coordinated way is how you win. You can also get support from artificial intelligence bots while building your team: place bot players on your team to strengthen your army.

Vehicles, bots and survival details

A number of vehicles appear only in certain areas of the maps. You can find, drive and control them, and you can crush the monkeys on the enemy team with your vehicle. The game includes some realism touches, for example staying too long in the sea means you drown and die. The store text also recounts the Gombe Chimpanzee War, a series of violent conflicts between two chimpanzee communities in Gombe National Park, Tanzania, that lasted from 1974 to 1978, quoting Jane Goodall's memoir "Through a Window: My Thirty Years with the Chimpanzees of Gombe". Keep that background in mind before starting, since the source material describes real violence between chimpanzee groups.
