What Alchemist: Journey of the Soul is

You play a homunculus, made and summoned by the Alchemist himself. He tells you about distant lands, forgotten knowledge, and the ingredients needed for the Philosopher's Stone, promising that it can grant you a soul. That promise drives everything you do: gather ingredients, find recipes, brew potions, and stir the pot at the right moment to unlock abilities you haven't had before. It's a first-person adventure with a linear path through ancient castles and monasteries, so you always have a direction to move in rather than an open map to wander. The tone is atmospheric and colorful, with a fantasy setting that leans on logic and observation more than combat. Along the way you sense that something is off — a truth buried under layers of alchemical lies — and the story keeps asking whether you'd do whatever it takes to claim a soul of your own.

Playing it together

The whole thing works solo or in online co-op with up to 4 players. In a group, everyone shares the same first-person journey: you explore areas together, split up to search for items and ingredients, and combine what you find to work out the puzzles. Since the challenges are riddles and logic problems rather than twitchy fights, a group can talk through what they're seeing, compare notes on clues, and figure out the right recipe between them. Magical abilities help you get around and open up paths, so having more players means more eyes on the environment and more hands on the brewing. It's a relaxed pace that suits a Discord call — you can chat while you explore without anyone needing to keep up with fast action.

Before you start

Expect puzzles that reward paying attention to your surroundings and thinking things through, not quick reflexes. The path is linear, so progress comes from solving the riddle in front of you rather than choosing where to go next. Brewing is a core loop: you'll be collecting ingredients and matching them to recipes throughout, so keep an eye out for anything lying around as you move through each area. The story is front and center and unfolds as you go, with the moral question at its heart becoming clearer the deeper you push into the Alchemist's trail. If your group likes atmospheric, story-rich exploration with a puzzle backbone and a bit of detective work, this fits well.
