What Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! is
Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! is a cross-platform party game from Resolution Games where one player defends the golden acorns and everyone else tries to steal them. The player in VR takes the role of the sole protective tree, using hand controllers to grab and hurl wood chunks, boulders and sticky sap at the squirrels. The other players join on their iOS and Android devices as rebel squirrels, each with their own abilities and tools, and try to carry the golden acorns back to their base. The game is both competitive and cooperative, so the squirrels work together against the tree while competing to be the one who delivers the acorn.
How a group plays it together
One person needs a VR headset and plays the tree. Everyone else plays on a phone or tablet, and the required mobile game for iOS and Android is free. The game is built for a couch session with a group of friends sitting around together, with players on different devices on the same side of the fight. The squirrels outnumber the tree, so the tree has to keep throwing projectiles to hold them off while the squirrels coordinate their approach. There are eight levels set in natural worlds, from nighttime glades to a sunlit stream and sulky swamps, and each level offers choices about which role to take.
The squirrels you can play
Four squirrels are described in the game. Zip is the fastest, light-footed and quick witted, with speed running abilities. Chunk is the gentle giant who protects his friends by carrying a shield. Doug is not the smartest acorn in the bunch, but he channels his rage issues into digging tunnels for safe underground travel. Sim is a crafty rodent who builds ramps for vertical movement. Each one changes how the group attacks the tree, so the mix of squirrels matters as much as the timing.
Before you start
You need at least one other person joining on a mobile device, otherwise the game cannot be played. Make sure the VR player has hand controllers, since the tree's attacks depend on them. The game is available in 10 languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
