A research facility gone wrong

Abiotic Factor is a first-person survival crafting game for 1-6 players, set inside a huge underground laboratory network run by GATE. After a containment breach, anomalous entities are loose, portals are bringing in enemies from other dimensions, and an arcane military group called The Order is attacking personnel to seize artifacts. Help is not coming, so you and the other scientists are stranded miles beneath the surface and have to plan your own escape. The setting has a 90's sci-fi feel, and the facility is filled with supernatural artifacts, transdimensional foes, and failed science experiments.

Playing together as a team

Your group builds characters by choosing PhDs, such as Phytogenetic Botanist, Defense Analyst, or Archotechnic Consultant, each with its own advantages. You combine traits and skills, then level up to earn perks and abilities alongside your fellow scientists. Since fighting is not a scientist's strong point, survival comes from putting those skills to work: crafting tools, weapons, and gear that range from simple nets and wooden bats to laser cannons and elaborate traps. Everyone can scavenge resources from offices and labs, raid vending machines, and take company property to build a shared base of operations while exploring the facility.

Moving home and exploring

Base building is part of the loop, but you are not stuck in one spot. When you want a change of scenery, you can pack up your belongings and move them across the facility using handcarts, forklifts, SUVs, teleporters, and more. The underground complex is massive, and there are many worlds beyond it to explore, taking advantage of advanced technology in this interdimensional adventure. Threats come from several directions at once: alien entities hunting for a meal, trigger-happy soldiers, and advanced robotic security forces attacking personnel. Coordination with your group matters, since you are up against enemies from a dozen realms while trying to make the complex your new home.
