What the game is
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist : Link Evolution is a card battler that pulls from more than 20 years of the franchise. You build a Deck from a pool of over 10,000 cards and face the well-known Duelists from the animated series. The campaign walks through the stories from the original Yu-Gi-Oh! show, through Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, and up to Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, with Duels that follow what happened on screen. Link Monster cards are part of the card pool, and they change both what you play and where you play it on the field. Reverse Duels let you take the role of the villains from the series. The game also includes Battle Pack Sealed Pack and Draft play, and it ships with all the downloadable content from the earlier Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist.
Playing together
Online PvP is where your group meets. Everyone builds their own Deck and duels each other one on one, so a group session is a rotation of matches rather than a shared table. Draft and Sealed Pack modes give you a different way to spend an evening: you open packs and build a Deck on the spot, which levels the field when someone has a deeper collection than the rest of the group. Since the card pool runs past 10,000, agreeing on a format or a ban list before you start keeps the matches from turning into a search through everyone's binders.
Before you start
If someone at the table is new to the Trading Card Game, the beginner's tutorial walks through the rules, and the campaign Duels replay moments from every version of the animated series, so there is a lot of ground to cover before you get to free play. Expect to spend time on Deck building between matches; that is a core part of the game, not a side activity. The Link Monster cards change field positioning, so players coming from older Yu-Gi-Oh! rules should read up on them before the first duel.
