A Wolf's Life in Yellowstone

You are a gray wolf in the Northern Range of Yellowstone National Park, recently dispersed from your natal pack. You start on your own, with a full life ahead of you: hunt to survive, explore the landscape, find a mate, and form a pack to raise a new family. The game is a realistic ecological simulation built with input from wolf biologists, so the animals, seasons, and behaviors follow real wolf biology. Elk, mule deer, and moose roam the meadows, sagebrush steppe, grasslands, alpine forests, and high ridges, and they migrate and change with the seasons. You are not alone out there. Rival wolf packs hold their own territories and will not welcome you, and grizzly bears, cougars, and coyotes will challenge you for food and space.

Hunting, Territory, and Raising Pups

Survival starts with hunting. Each prey animal behaves differently, so you learn their habits and figure out which ones you can take on. Once you have a mate, you claim a territory and choose a den. Pups arrive, and you feed and play with them while keeping them safe from predators. Over time the family outgrows the den and becomes nomadic, and you teach the pups to hunt for themselves. By the next spring they are yearlings, helping raise the next litter, and eventually some disperse on their own, just as you did. You choose how your story runs: one single life, or a chain of generations where you pick an heir to carry on after your wolf dies. The cycle repeats year after year until your wolf's death. Dynamic weather, day and night cycles, and changing seasons shape every part of this. Wolves communicate through natural actions and vocalizations, and a genetics system passes down eye color, physical and personality traits, and coat color.

Playing With Friends

Online Co-op lets you share the wilderness with others. You can raise pups together as a group for one game year, hold territory against rival packs as a team, or just hang out in a sandbox with no objective. There is also a 2-You build a pack and raise pups year to year until one of you dies of old age. You control who joins your games: public to everyone, private to friends, or limited to specific people or in-game pack groups.

Before You Start

WolfQuest offers an optional Ironwolf Mode where death cannot be undone and every decision counts, so think carefully if you turn it on. The game includes over 100 achievements and collectible objects scattered across the map, from shed antlers and skulls to lost human items. It is family friendly and works on Steam Deck.
