A shelf of 50 complete games

UFO 50 is a collection of 50 single and multiplayer games from the creators of Spelunky, Downwell, and Catacomb Kids. The genres run wide: platformers, shoot 'em ups, puzzle games, roguelites, RPGs, strategy, and more. These are not minigames or microgames. Sizes vary, but each one is a complete experience from its opening title screen to its ending credits. Some are small arcade-style games, some are larger open-world adventures, and Grimstone is a full JRPG set in an American Wild West swallowed by Hell, where you build a party from the ashes of a burned-down saloon.

All 50 games are available from the start, like pulling out a multicart or browsing a friend's game library. You can jump in and out at a whim. The games are framed as the output of a fictional obscure-but-ahead-of-its-time 80s video game company, and they share a continuity: some are sequels to each other, characters recur across titles, and playing the whole collection reveals more about figures like Isabell from Campanella 2.

Playing together

Half the collection features local multiplayer, including co-op and versus. You can compete head-to-head in a fighting or strategy game, or team up on a classic arcade game from an alternate timeline. Remote Play Together is supported, so friends can join over the network.

Quibble Race is a turn-based sci-fi horse-racing game for up to 3 players where the goal is to end with more money than your opponents. You can hire thugs to tamper with the race or sponsor your own quibble for extra credits, and your opponents can do the same, so it comes down to reading their moves. Pingolf mixes golf with pinball across 18 holes full of bumpers, trampolines, and other obstacles, with a dot matrix display at the bottom of the screen reacting to your play.

Before you start

Every game shares a 32-color palette and is made to look and sound like an actual 8-bit title from the 80s, while the design itself is not limited to past conventions. Expect range in difficulty and length: some titles are quick arcade runs, while Grimstone can take many hours. Seaside Drive is a car-based shoot 'em up where drifting across the screen powers up your gun, and Campanella 2 has procedurally-generated levels you explore in a UFO, hopping out to enter shops and dangerous caves. Pick something short for a group session or settle into a longer game and come back to it.
