Mountain pass battles from 90s Japan
Touge Shakai (Mountain Pass Society) is an online touge racing game built around Japanese car culture of the 1990s. The driving physics sit between a full simulator and an arcade racer: mainly simulated, but not as demanding as a hardcore racing sim. Each car has its own distinct driving character, so you need to learn a different style to get the best out of it. One important quirk: for most rear-wheel drive cars, drifting is faster than grip driving.
How your group plays together
Multiplayer lobbies let you free roam the touge, hang out, and start impromptu races with others. For proper competition, PvP Battle offers classic touge-style duels with "First to finish" and "Cat and Mouse" rules. In Cat and Mouse, one player leads and the other chases: the leader wins by finishing a fixed distance ahead, while the chaser wins by overtaking before the finish. If it ends in a draw, the next round starts with their positions reversed. Team battles run several PvP Battles at the same time, and the team with the most wins takes the match. Time Attack lets you race the clock and challenge the ghosts of other players' previous runs to learn their lines.
Before you start
The game is in Early Access, so expect things to change. Online matchmaking and ranking are listed as coming later, along with driver and team profiles and a replay camera editor. Steering wheel support with force feedback is available, though only Logitech and Thrustmaster wheels are tested and verified so far. You can load your own music into the in-game player, customize cars with body kits and liveries, and unlock new cars and parts by hitting objectives. Weather includes rain and fog, and there is virtual reality support. The FPV drone can be flown in full manual (Acro) mode in online multiplayer or used to chase your own replay.
