What Totally Unbalanced is

Totally Unbalanced is a 3D platform game built with Unreal Engine 4 where you control a ball that is, as the name suggests, totally unbalanced. You roll, jump and push through levels full of obstacles and puzzles, and the goal in each level is to finish as fast as possible. The single-player side is split into chapters, each holding at least 10 levels with different puzzles, so there is a steady stream of new layouts to learn rather than one long stretch of the same idea. Before you start a run you pick a skin for your ball, which is the main way you put your own stamp on how you look in game.

Playing it with friends

The game carries two online multiplayer modes. Sumo Arena puts 4 players on an arena where the aim is to be the one left standing while everyone else gets knocked off. Ball Race is the bigger mode: 16 players run toward the end of the map and try to be first across. Both modes are competitive, so a group of friends can fill a Sumo Arena almost entirely on its own, while a larger crew can spread across a race grid. Winning or surviving earns you UnbalancedPoints, and those points feed into ranks, which gives a group something to compare between sessions. Online play comes with stats and ranks attached, so your results carry over from match to match.

Before you start

Expect a mix of two different experiences in one package: the timed puzzle-platforming levels you play on your own, and the online matches where you fight other people. The puzzles range from simple to complex, so a level that looks harmless can still take a few attempts, and the timer is always running against you. The soundtrack is a notable part of the package, with 21 in-game tracks and 5 more in the main menu, which keeps long sessions from feeling quiet. It is aimed at both hardcore and casual players, so you can take the level times seriously or just roll around and see what happens.
