A Crowd, Not a Hero

Tonight We Riot is a 2D pixel-art beat 'em up where you lead a movement instead of a single protagonist. The setting is a dystopia where wealthy capitalists control elections, media, and the lives of working people, and the game frames your play session as a fight for something better. The health and well-being of the crowd you control determine the success of the revolution, so keeping people alive matters as much as pushing forward. The tone mixes old-school brawler action with horror synth music, a wood chipper, a Whimsy Kaiju, and a dog.

Playing Together

The game supports couch co-op, so you and the people next to you can join the same session on one screen. Remote Play Together is also listed as a Steam feature, which lets friends join over a network connection. The action is crowd-based, so the group works through the same side-scrolling brawling rather than splitting into separate missions. Progress unlocks 20 weapons, gear, and perks that you can bring into later runs.

Before You Start

Expect a retro pixel look and straightforward beat 'em up combat rather than a story-driven campaign. The content list includes an Endless Mode, so there is a mode built for longer sessions once you have the basics down. The game leans into its political satire and violent catharsis, including throat-punching a billionaire ghoul, so the humor and subject matter are aimed at adults who are fine with that tone.
