What The Last Camp : Dawn is
The Last Camp : Dawn is a top-down twin-stick shooter set on a post-apocalyptic wasteland where humanity has gathered into its last camp on the ruins. The camp itself has real problems to deal with: no oil, no electricity, no clean water. Those crises get solved as the story moves forward, and you fight through the wasteland using the technology and weapons humanity left behind. Your enemies are mutated zombies, evil raiders, and giant mechanical monsters. The campaign runs eight chapters, plus side challenge levels and an endless mode. The store text puts total playtime at around 15 hours, with a straight story rush on standard difficulty taking roughly 7.5 hours.
Playing it with your group
The whole game, story campaign included, can be played solo or in online co-op with up to 4 players. That means your group can run the chapters together rather than taking turns watching one person play. Expect a lot of shooting from two directions at once, which is the twin-stick format: one stick moves, the other aims and fires. Between fights there is a weapon and item system to dig into, and a large world map to cross. A pathfinding system is built into the story progression, so nobody has to argue over where to go next on that big map.
Before you start
Weapon upgrades and item crafting are where the time goes. Upgrading about half the weapons to high levels takes around 7.5 hours on top of the story, and pushing every weapon to high level takes about 14 hours. Side levels come in varying difficulties and feed that upgrade loop, and the endless mode keeps those challenges available even after every weapon is maxed out, so you can keep playing past the campaign. The initial release includes two DLC items, the Explorer Weapon Pack and the Conqueror Kit. Note that installing DLC content shortens playtime, since high-level weapons and tools become easier to get. The tags list includes violent content and gore, so keep that in mind for anyone in the group who'd rather not.
