Commanding a fleet in an open universe

The Infinite Black 2 is an open-world online space adventure where you captain a fleet of ships rather than a single vessel. Your work out among the stars covers hunting aliens, trading resources, looting treasure, and working through a large pile of achievements. Movement is grid-based, and the game carries stealth, crafting, and PvE elements alongside its combat, so there is more to do than just shoot. Character customization lets you set up how your captain looks before you head out.

Playing with friends as a corporation

You can form corporations with your friends, pool your efforts, and build shipyards together. Those shipyards support the wider war, which the game describes as never-ending, and corporations give your group a shared stake in it. The server is cross-platform and connects thousands of players across desktop and mobile devices, so your group can mix hardware and still end up in the same universe. PvP is available for corporations that want to fight other players, while PvE covers the alien hunting and exploration side.

Before you start

The game is Steam Deck compatible, and a single server holds everyone, so you are always playing in a shared space with other people, not a private lobby. Steam players get a set of gifts: 7 days of +10% XP bonus, two custom Captain Titles, and an exclusive Scorpion Retro Ship Skin. These arrive once you reach Captain Level 7, and the store text notes they can be used or sold, so it is worth holding onto them rather than scrapping them. The developers run dev chats and launch events on Discord if you want to follow along.
