A fan-made Sburb you can actually play

The Genesis Project is the Homestuck fandom's attempt at recreating SBURB, the world-ending game from the webcomic Homestuck by Andrew Hussie. You build your way up through each gate and fight unique enemies, bosses, and stairs as you go. It's an action RPG with base building, inventory management, platforming, and dungeon crawling mixed together, wrapped in the comic's sense of humor. The project is a labor of love from fans, stays free, and does not profit from Andrew Hussie's creations, since Homestuck, SBURB, and many of the concepts in the game are his intellectual property.

Playing with your group

You can run a no-canon solo session on your own, or create lobbies and play with your friends to wreak havoc upon the universe. Online co-op is how you team up with the rest of your group, and online PvP is also on offer if you'd rather fight each other. Character customization lets you make your session yours before you start tearing through it. Expect a shared run where everyone builds, fights, and moves through the gates together rather than a set of separate single-player levels.

Alchemy and the stuff you'll be juggling

The tag-based Alchemy system lets you combine absolutely any two items together, as long as you have the grist to pay for it. That means plenty of time spent sifting through your inventory, deciding what to combine, and keeping an eye on your grist supply so the ideas you want are actually affordable. Between that, crafting, and base building, a chunk of each session goes into managing what you have and where things are placed, not just into combat.

Before you start

This is Early Access, so it's a work in progress: features can change, and the developers actively want suggestions and help from players. They run a Discord server where they post what they're working on next and talk to people directly. Worth knowing going in: the game is free, it carries the Memes and Funny tags alongside its RPG systems, and it leans hard on Homestuck itself, so the material lands best if you know the source. Pick a mode with your group, sort out who's building and who's fighting, and settle the co-op or PvP question up front so nobody's surprised later.
