What The Faraway Land is

The Faraway Land is an open world survival game set in a magical world full of cute and dangerous creatures. You are Theofin's creation, summoned to bring order to the world, and the challenges and dangers of the land are yours to handle. The world is uncharted, with friends and foes scattered across islands you explore at your own pace. You collect resources, craft items, trade, ride a pony and travel through portals. Along the way you learn recipes and construction blueprints from the villagers who arrived before you and already know the ways of this land. Help them with quests and they share their knowledge in return.

Survival is a constant part of the loop. Keep an eye on your conditions: like the locals, you need food and water. Diseases and illnesses are a real threat, and the plague is something to be careful about. As you progress you acquire new qualities, each one bringing new challenges with it. Beyond the villages and towns, wild animals, monsters and unusual creatures roam the wilderness and will not always welcome strangers, so learning to make armor and weapons with the locals matters before you set out on adventures.

Playing it together as a group

You can play online with friends in a group of up to four. Together you face enemies, complete quests and learn to survive in this strange world. The shared part runs deeper than the adventure itself: your revives, resources, food and structures all draw from the same pool, so the group has to manage what it has between everyone. That means coordinating who gathers, who cooks, who builds, and deciding together how to spend money at the merchants scattered around the islands when you would rather buy than grow everything yourself.

Before you start

Expect a slow, patient build rather than a quick session. Growing your own food, extracting seeds with the locals and tending a garden of the world's unique plants takes time, and becoming a fully fledged part of the world is something you work toward. Building your home works the same way: learn construction blueprints from the villagers, then collect furniture blueprints to make the place your own. Bring a group that is happy to share and plan ahead, since everything the four of you use is counted together.
