Building a team run by run
Tape to Tape is a roguelite hockey game where you take charge of a ragtag group of players as their newly appointed captain. Each run sends you across a mysterious land, and the path you pick shapes what happens next. Along the way you hire unique players, manage your benchwarmers, and look for synergies between them so the lineup works as a whole. You also pick new abilities, take on events and boss battles, and can bribe the referees or visit the Blademaster for upgrades. The goal is to restore hockey to its former glory and uncover the secret of hockey's last bastion. The campaign carries powerups, events, boss battles and unique players, and there are over 40 different teams, each with its own synergies and colorful players.
Playing together
The campaign has a co-op mode, so you can team up with friends to push through a run together. Since every powerup choice is a decision for the whole group, expect to argue over what to take and which path to follow. Outside the campaign you can jump into Tournament, Play now or Shootout modes, and Play now supports up to 10 players locally. Teams and players can be customized with power-ups, artifacts and color options, so each group can put its own stamp on the roster.
What to know before starting
Tape to Tape does not have native online multiplayer. Friends who are not in the same room can still join through Steam Remote Play Together or third-party services such as Parsec. The game is in Early Access, so content and balance can change as development continues. On the ice, the game blends modern precision with fast-paced 90s-inspired action: body checks, saves, and a dynamic puck physics system where the puck bounces off sticks and ricochets off faces create organic battles. Goalies react to shots, deflections and rebounds on their own, and losing a tooth carries no penalty. Between runs, losses feed into visits to the Blademaster, where your hero gets permanent upgrades for the next attempt.
