What SYNTHETIK: Arena is

SYNTHETIK: Arena is a standalone expansion to the rogue-lite top-down shooter SYNTHETIK: Legion Rising. You stand your ground against relentless opponents across five unforgiving challenges, facing the varied challenges of the Machine God Zir. The game leans hard into gun handling: magazine eject and active reload are mechanics you actively work, weapons can jam and build heat, and recoil is movement based. You can switch between ammo types, and headshots are in play from the top-down perspective. Beyond the guns there are many dozens of weapons, items, perks and character upgrades to discover, with a large amount of customization so different playstyles can take shape.

Playing it with friends

You can take the fight alone or through seamless 2 player online co-op. In co-op you bring a reinforcement into the arena and share perks, items, buffs and loot with your partner. The same tools work both ways, so you can also share bullets if your comrade gets in the way. The co-op is online, so you need someone on the other end rather than sharing a screen.

Before you start

Expect a dense, hands-on shooter rather than a streamlined one. The design is inspired by late 90s games that kept every feature people enjoyed instead of trimming to the minimum, so there is a lot to learn: reload timing, heat and jam management, recoil control, ammo choices, and the headshot layer on top of the top-down view. The five challenges are built to be unforgiving, and the run structure means you will be pushing through waves of enemies while piecing together perks, items and upgrades as you go. The setting puts you as the human consciousness of a forgotten Android prototype inside Kaida Corporation, where the Machine Legion has turned on humanity.
