A road trip told as a runner
Summer Catchers is a side-scrolling drive through a pixel art world. You travel in a wooden car, moving from left to right through shadowy forests, dark swamps, vast valleys and underground cities, and the road keeps throwing obstacles and larger than life situations at you. Between runs you set goals, complete tasks and stock your travel bag with gear, so each attempt starts from a plan rather than from nothing. The story carries you forward through strange and wonderful characters you meet along the way, and the trip is aimed at finally reaching summer. Alongside the driving there are races, rhythm sections and puzzle moments, so the pace changes as you go rather than staying one thing the whole time.
Playing it together
The game carries the Co-op, Local Co-Op and Multiplayer tags, and it supports Remote Play Together, which lets people join in over a connection instead of sitting at the same machine. That makes it a straightforward pick for a group that wants to watch someone else drive and jump in, or for a couple of friends working through the same stretch of road. Since the runs are short and repeatable, handing the controls around between attempts fits the shape of the game well.
Before you start
Expect to fail and restart a lot. The core loop is getting as far as you can, banking what you learned, then buying upgrades and abilities for the car so the next run goes further. Look at your bag before you set off: picking the right gear for the stretch ahead matters more than raw speed. The world hides corners, mysteries and secrets that a fast traveller will drive straight past, so replaying a section you already cleared is a normal part of the game rather than busywork. The car can be upgraded and given unique abilities, and those upgrades are what open up routes that were out of reach before.
