Two classic space games in one pack
This pack holds Star Control 1 and Star Control 2, both from Toys for Bob. Star Control 1 puts you against the Ur-Quan Hierarchy, a savage group of alien races that is conquering its neighbors and heading for humanity. You command the Alliance of Free Stars battlefleet and try to stop them. Star Control 2 follows with a story-heavy adventure: you begin in a nearly empty spaceship and grow it over time by fitting modules that change how the vessel handles and fights. Both games mix space exploration, alien diplomacy and ship-to-ship combat, and both keep the humor running alongside the danger.
How a group plays together
Steam lists Remote Play Together for this pack, so one person who owns the game can host a session and bring friends in over the internet. That is the way a group sits down with it: one host launches, the rest join, and you take on the fights and the exploration together from your own machines. Expect the session to be driven by whoever is hosting, with everyone else following along in the same session rather than running separate games.
What to know before starting
These are retro titles with pixel graphics and top-down shooting, so the look and the controls belong to an older era of PC gaming. Star Control 2 is the deeper of the two: you spend time discovering new stars, meeting alien races, uncovering ancient technologies and mysterious places, and upgrading your ship piece by piece rather than starting fully equipped. Combat shows up as vehicular battles between ships, and the campaign leans on a story full of memorable characters and plot turns. Star Control 1 is more directly about fleet command and holding off an invasion. The pack is single-campaign material with both games included, so a group picking it up should expect a story-driven run with combat along the way rather than a competitive multiplayer mode.
