A classic 4X space RTS, remastered

Imperium Galactica II is a real-time strategy game about running an empire across a large sci-fi universe with multiple playable species. You expand through colonization or conquest, manage a deep economy and population, and push through a large tree of researchable upgrades. Fleets and armies can be customized, and battles take place both in space and on the ground. The game includes three unique campaigns, custom scenarios, galactic alliances, and espionage that lets you spy on enemies and steal what you need. This release is a remaster of the original, with an updated rendering engine that supports arbitrary screen resolutions and aspect ratios, higher resolution user interface textures, improved lighting and shadowing on planet surfaces, and an added planet view mode.

Playing together

The Steam version lists Online PvP, and the remaster adds a server browser for multiplayer mode, so you can find and join games from within the client. Beyond that, the store text does not specify player counts, team options, or how a multiplayer match is structured, so check the in-game lobby for what is actually available. For groups who want to play the singleplayer side, the three campaigns and custom scenarios give each person something to work through on their own, and you can compare how each of you handled the same scenario.

Before you start

This is a deep real-time strategy game with a lot of moving parts: economy, population, research, ship and tank customization, and ground and space combat all run at once. Expect a learning curve before your empire runs smoothly. The game is tagged as Classic, so the underlying design comes from an earlier era of RTS games even though the visuals have been updated. The store text does not state platform or controller support details beyond the Steam features listed, so confirm those in the client before you plan a session.
