Fighting the horde across a broken planet
SAS: Zombie Assault 4 is a top-down twin stick shooter with real RPG systems underneath the gunfire. A virus outbreak on a distant trans-federation planet has unleashed a fast-growing zombie horde, and the S.A.S. special forces are the only ones left to push back. You pick one of three classes — Assault, Medic, or Heavy Gunner — and each one has its own upgrade tree with 19 skills to customize. Combat is fast and messy: zombies swarm the screen, 17 unique types each bring their own attacks and behavior, and they evolve new powers as you push deeper. Boss zombies hunt you down with acid worms and rage mode, so every map has something nastier waiting at the end.
Playing together as a fire team
The whole game works solo or with up to three other players in online co-op. Quickmatch drops you into a lobby with players of a similar level, and everyone's chosen skills and weapons combine into one fire team. Coordination is where co-op shines: one player drops auto-turrets while another uses Assault Team or Aerial Bombardment to clear a room, and the Medic can pop Zombie Antidote to keep everyone standing. You can also shove physics objects around to build temporary cover when a swarm gets too close. For something more competitive, PvP events like Last Man Standing put players against each other instead of the undead.
Loot, upgrades, and what to plan for
Your loadout is a pistol plus two rifle-class weapons, drawn from over 160 guns and armor pieces hidden in strongboxes found in secret rooms or dropped by enemies. Submachine guns, shotguns, assault rifles, machine guns, flamethrowers, rocket launchers, and lightning guns all play differently, so testing new drops is half the fun. Armor covers you against physical, thermal, and chemical attacks, and you can slot auto-turrets, grenades, and special high-damage ammo on top. Guns and gear come in grades, with a powerful RED version showing up once you reach high levels, and augmentations let you push damage, fire rate, reload time, resistances, or healing even further. Across 7 story-driven maps with varying victory conditions, expect the zombie types and bosses to force you to rethink your build rather than just spray bullets.
