Shape a prehistoric world
Sapiens is a colony sim where you start with nothing and guide a tribe through thousands of years of technological breakthroughs. The world is yours to shape: pick a home from thousands of procedurally generated environments across a map larger than Earth itself, each with different climates, resources, and challenges. From the largest citadel to the smallest log, everything can be moved and placed at will. You direct individual sapiens to focus on tasks like research, planting crops, gathering materials, building, hunting, and cooking, and you watch them learn new skills and become more valuable to the tribe. Along the way you manage their moods, health, and growing families.
Build together with friends
Multiplayer is online co-op with no PVP, so everything is about cooperation and creating rather than destroying. Team up with friends to construct sprawling cities and manage resources collectively. Large projects like major trading hubs and hospitals become possible when you collaborate, since they would be impossible to build alone. You can split up the work, send sapiens on hunting missions, and establish camps to gather resources far from home. Trade across the globe with tools like sleds, and grow your standing in other tribes for more benefits in trading. Other tribes focus their skills on one of four trades: rock tools, bread, pottery, and bronze.
What to know before starting
Sapiens is in Early Access, so features and content can change as development continues. It supports extensive mod support through Steam Workshop, which is worth knowing if your group likes to customize. Progression runs from primitive materials up to more advanced tools and techniques, so expect a long arc rather than a quick session. Finding the right starting area matters, since each region brings different climates, resources, and challenges that shape how your civilization grows.
