What Roof Rage is
Roof Rage is a fast-paced platform fighter set on rooftops, built as both a party game and a competitive one for platform fighter players. It's easy to pick up but hard to master, and the scale and speed are meant to keep you inventing new combos and pushing the gameplay further. The roster sits at 13 characters, each with a unique playstyle, and the last 5 were added after the initial release. Stages come in 13 culturally inspired rooftops. The whole thing is 2D pixel art with more than 4000 sprites, so expect a lot of pixels moving, backed by 10 16-bit soundtracks plus showdown versions of them.
Fighting mechanics
Matches are built around a martial arts moveset with real options to read and react. You can pick up and throw roof tiles, catch them out of the air, deflect incoming projectiles, wave-dash, parry, and land a smash attack as a finishing move. Those tools are what give the game its creative ceiling: the same character can play very differently depending on how much of that kit you actually use.
Playing together
Local matches support up to 8 players across several game modes: stock match, team match, score match, and practice. Online play is 1v1, where you can jump into a quick random match or invite a friend to a private match. Remote Play Together is available, so someone can join your session from their own setup. CPUs are described as genuinely challenging, with 9 difficulty levels, which gives a group something to grind when nobody else is online.
Before you start
Roof Rage is in Early Access, so the feature set is still growing. Listed as coming are online ranked match, new characters, new stages, tutorials, and a potential story mode. There's no tutorial yet, so expect to learn the movement and the tile mechanics by playing. The game is a 2D fighter at heart, so the skill gap between a casual session and a competitive one will show up quickly — pick a character, learn one combo properly, and the rest of the roster opens up from there.
