Bending rails to bring carriages home

Railbound is a track-bending puzzle game about a pair of dogs travelling the world by train. Each level gives you a set of railway pieces to work with: place, remove and reroute connections so every carriage reaches the locomotive without crashing into anything else on the line. The puzzles start gentle and get sharper, with over 240 of them spread across a variety of locations. Forks off the main path lead to tougher brainteasers if you want something spicier than the main route.

Tools the game teaches you along the way

The mechanics stay train-themed throughout. Tunnels cover vast distances in an instant, railway barriers delay trains at the right moment, and switches send cars off in different directions. You also pick up friends along the way, which adds extra constraints to solve around. The visuals are comic-book inspired and colourful, and the soundtrack comes from the team behind Golf Peaks and inbento, so the whole thing reads as calm and wholesome even when a puzzle refuses to click.

Playing together and making your own levels

Railbound is listed as a singleplayer game, so the group plays it by taking turns on the same puzzle or splitting up and comparing which forks and brainteasers each of you cleared. Steam's Remote Play Together feature is supported, which lets someone share their session with friends. If 240+ puzzles run out, the level editor lets you build your own challenges and share them through Steam Workshop, or load puzzles other people made. That gives a group a shared pool of levels to work through after the main journey is done.

Before you start

Expect difficulty: the game is tagged Difficult as well as Casual and Relaxing, so the early levels ease you in while later ones demand careful thinking about timing and routing. There is no combat or time pressure beyond the trains you set in motion yourself — the challenge is planning the network so nothing collides. Settle in for a slow, thoughtful pace rather than a quick session.
