What Pro Jank Footy is
Pro Jank Footy is an arcade comedy sports game built around Australian Rules Football, reworked into something chaotic and constantly shifting. Matches run on pixel-style 2D action with physics that keeps the ball and the bodies unpredictable. The core loop is simple: score a goal, and your opponent gets to pick a power-up that changes the match from there. Over 150 power-ups are available, so a lead can swing hard and no two games land the same way.
The humor is a big part of the package, with commentary from Broden Kelly of Aunty Donna alongside David Ashby and Dario Russo, known for Danger 5 and Italian Spiderman. It leans into Australian footy culture and plays it up for laughs rather than aiming for a realistic simulation.
Playing it with your group
Versus is the mode this one is built for. You can take each other on locally on the couch or play online, picking apart each other with power-ups every time someone scores. You can also go solo against the AI if the group isn't around.
If the group wants something closer to plain arcade footy, "Normal Footy" strips out the power-ups entirely, so you get clean matches without the rule-breaking nonsense. Worth agreeing on which version before you start, since the two play very differently.
Power-ups and the season
The power-ups do more than buff and nerf. Some double your team's players, some remove the umpires from the field, some let you play as a seagull, some scatter extra goal posts around the oval, and some flip the whole match by turning everyone into footballs. Picking the right one for the moment matters more than picking the strongest one.
Beyond versus, Season Mode takes you through a full season with deck-building attached: each team you beat earns you new janky powers to add to your deck. The tags list Choices Matter alongside the roguelite and deckbuilding notes, so expect the run to come down to what you take and what you leave. If you're after a game that stays the same every match, this isn't it — the point is the chaos.
