A haunted village rooted in Taiwanese history

PAGUI打鬼 is a third-person action-adventure RPG set in Taiwan in early 1954. The story follows an orphan taken in by a temple who overhears talk of his past and slips out into the night to find his relatives. The journey runs through a haunted village where historic architecture, religious practices, folk lore and supernatural culture all play a part. You explore the eerie environment, sneak past powerful spirits, learn skills to fight ghosts, and dig up both your own story and the buried history of the village. The 3D environments were built from real haunted houses and temples that the production team scouted and investigated in person.

Playing through the story alone

Single player is built around the 3D third-person action-adventure campaign. You arm yourself as you move through the ghost town, solve puzzles and beat mini-games drawn from Taiwanese culture and religion, including moon blocks and the Tao's divine bagua. Combat uses martial arts taken from modern practitioners and masters, captured with motion capture so the movements read as real Taiwanese martial arts. Spells are based on Taoist practices, reproduced digitally under the guidance of Taoist priests. The soundtrack merges oriental instruments with metal and electronic music, produced to give the whole thing a movie-like feel.

Group play through 3v1 PvP

The multiplayer side is 3v1 asymmetrical action. One side plays the righteous Exorcists working to banish evil; the other plays the burgeoning Malevolent unleashing fury. Your group splits across those roles and plays it out against each other rather than alongside each other.

Before you start

The game supports Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese in its stories, and runs on Windows. It carries mythology, horror and supernatural themes throughout, with an atmospheric haunted village as the main setting.
